Legacy Front End "Pop" Noise

If you encounter a customer complaint of a noise coming from the front end when turning, (similar to a small stone hitting the floor pan) the pivoting action of the front stabilizer bar bushing clamps may be the cause. Use the following information to adjust the clamps:

NOTE:
This noise has been confused with strut noises; replacing front struts will not repair this problem.

Remove both left and right bushing clamps. Use Section 4-1 of the applicable Legacy Service Manual. Bend the tab hook down approximately 3/16" (the tab hook fits into the slot on the frame bracket). The purpose of bending the hook is to tighten the clamp so it won't pivot or move as much. Coat the underside or contact area with anti-sieze compound. (Never Sieze, etc.) Reinstall in reverse order of removal.

A production change was made in July 1992 at FHI and September 1992 at SIA.
