APPLICABILITY SUBARU SVX
SUBJECT: RADIO ANTENNA MAST WIND/WHISTLE NOISE
If you encounter a customer complaint of wind/whistle noise, the cause may be from an extended radio antenna mast. The noise can be greatly reduced by installing an antenna mast tube spacer, P/N SOA635050. This modification shortens the antenna mast length and does not affect radio reception.
NOTE: THIS MODIFICATION HAS BEEN INCLUDED IN PRODUCTION SINCE 11/18/91, STARTING WITH VIN NH107008.
Installation Procedures
1. Using suitable snap ring pliers, remove the antenna nut by turning counterclockwise. See Figure 1.
2. Remove the antenna base by lifting up. Carefully remove the rubber "O" ring. See Figure 2. This "O" ring is a water seal - do not damage while servicing. Remember to reinstall during assembly.
3. Pull out the electricity supply tube with pliers. Wrap pliers with a cloth so that damage to the tube does not occur. See Figure 3.
4. Install antenna mast tube spacer P/N SOA635050. Reinstall the electricity supply tube and press firmly into place. Reinstall rubber "O" ring, antenna base and antenna nut. See Figure 4.
NOTE: If you find it difficult to install the spacer and electricity supply tube with the antenna mast installed, remove the antenna mast from the housing, install the spacer and the electricity supply tube, reinstall the mast and assemble as indicated.
Confirm proper antenna operation.
