Evaporative Emissions System: Description and Operation
Evaporative Emission Control System:
PURPOSE
This system prevents evaporated fuel from being released into the atmosphere.
OPERATION
Fuel vapors from the tank are routed to the canister through the evaporation line and are absorbed in activated carbon. Vapors are purged from the canister when the ECM signals the purge control solenoid valve to open. Coolant temperature, engine load and vehicle speed inputs are used by the ECM to calculate when purging should occur.
CONSTRUCTION
The system includes a charcoal canister, two-way valve, fuel cut valve (AWD only), rollover valve, purge control solenoid valve and various connecting lines.
