Note the orientation of all parts as they are removed, so they can be properly installed. Refer to Fig. 4 when performing the following procedure.
1. Raise and support hood, then remove spare tire and support.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Disconnect the following electrical connectors and vacuum hoses: Oxygen sensor; transmission harness; inhibitor switch; revolution sensor. Disconnect front exhaust pipe before removing speedometer cable.
4. Remove clip band, retaining air breather hose to pitching stopper.
5. Remove pitching stopper rod, then install engine support assembly tool No. 926610000, or equivalent, to pitching stopper rod brackets.
6. Remove starter motor attaching bolts, then starter motor.
7. Remove timing hole plug, then four torque converter attaching bolts.
8. Remove right side engine to transmission attaching nut and bolt.
9. Remove exhaust system as follows:
a. Raise and support vehicle.
b. Remove front exhaust pipe to engine retaining nuts. Leave one nut attached to temporarily support the exhaust pipe.
c. Separate front exhaust pipe from rear pipe.
d. Disconnect front exhaust pipe from transmission, by removing hanger bolt.
e. Remove remaining exhaust pipe to engine retaining nut, then exhaust pipe.
10. Drain transmission fluid into a suitable container, by removing oil pan drain plug.
11. Disconnect cable from select lever. Loosen cable to bracket attaching nut, then separate cable from bracket.
12. Disconnect stabilizer from transverse link, by loosening nut and bolt on lower side of plate.
13. Remove hand brake cable bracket from transverse link.
14. Remove transverse link nut and bolt, then lower transverse link.
15. Remove spring pin using a suitable tool, then separate axle shaft from driveshaft on each side by pushing rear of tire outward.
16. Remove engine to transmission attaching nuts.
17. Disconnect oil cooler hoses.
18. Support transmission using a suitable jack, then remove rear rubber cushion attaching nuts.
19. Remove rear crossmember, then lower transmission from vehicle.
20. Reverse procedure to install.
