Removal and Installation
1. Remove spare tire from engine compartment.2. Relieve fuel system pressure as outlined under Technican Safety Information.
3. Disconnect battery ground cable from battery and engine.
4. Remove spare support clamp and the support.
5. Disconnect vacuum hoses from charcoal canister, then remove upper air cleaner case and filter and disconnect electrical connector.
6. Disconnect fuel delivery, return and evaporation hoses.
7. On models equipped with automatic transaxle, disconnect diaphragm vacuum hose.
8. Disconnect wire harness connectors between engine and body.
9. Disconnect accelerator cable throttle body.
10. On models equipped with manual transaxle, remove release lever spring, then disconnect hill holder cable, if equipped.

11. Remove pitching stopper rod, Fig. 4.
12. On models equipped with automatic transaxle, remove timing hole plug, then the four torque converter to driveplate attaching bolts.
13. Drain cooling system, then disconnect radiator hoses and remove radiator from vehicle.
14. Disconnect heater hoses from engine.
15. Unfasten power steering pump, if equipped, and position aside.
16. Raise and support vehicle.
17. Disconnect front exhaust pipe from engine. Leave one nut installed to temporarily hold exhaust pipe.
18. Disconnect front exhaust pipe from rear exhaust pipe.
19. Unfasten and remove front exhaust pipe.
20. Remove engine mount.
21. Remove lower engine to transaxle attaching nuts, the lower vehicle.
22. Support engine using suitable lifting equipment.
23. Remove upper engine to transaxle attaching bolts and nuts.
24. Support transaxle with a suitable jack, then raise engine and transaxle slightly.
25. On models equipped with manual transaxle, move engine back until mainshaft clears clutch cover.
26. Carefully lift engine and remove from vehicle.
27. Reverse procedure to install noting the following:
a. Tighten bolts and nuts to specifications.
b. Refer to Drive Belt for belt routing and tension data.
c. Refer to Cooling System / Service and Repair for drain and refill procedure.
