Three-Speed Automatic Transmission

1. Raise and support hood, then remove spare tire and support.
2. Disconnect battery negative cable.
3. Disconnect the following electrical connectors and vacuum hoses: oxygen sensor, ATF temperature switch, kickdown solenoid valve, AWD solenoid valve, diaphragm vacuum hose and AWD vacuum hose.
4. Remove clip band retaining the air breather hose to pitching stopper.
5. Remove pitching stopper rod, then install engine support assembly 926610000, or equivalent, to pitching stopper rod bracket.
6. Remove starter motor attaching bolts, then the starter motor.
7. Remove timing hole plug, then the four torque converter attaching bolts.
8. Remove right side engine to transmission attaching nut and bolt.
9. Remove exhaust system as follows:
a. Raise and support vehicle.
b. Remove front exhaust pipe to engine retaining nuts. Leave one nut attached to temporarily support exhaust pipe.
c. Separate front exhaust pipe from rear pipe.
d. Disconnect front exhaust pipe from transmission, by removing hanger bolt.
e. Remove remaining exhaust pipe to engine retaining nut, then exhaust pipe.
10. Remove oil pan drain plug and drain transmission fluid into a suitable container.
11. Remove propeller shaft and disconnect select rod from transfer rail.
12. Disconnect linkage rod from select lever.
13. Disconnect stabilizer from transverse link by loosening nut and bolt on lower side of plate.
14. Remove hand brake cable bracket from transverse link.
15. Remove transverse link nut and bolt, then lower transverse link.
16. Remove spring pin using a suitable tool, then separate axle shaft from driveshaft on each side by pushing rear of tire outward.
17. Remove engine to transmission attaching nuts.
18. Disconnect oil cooler hoses.
19. Support transmission using a suitable jack, then remove rear rubber cushion attaching nuts.
20. Remove rear crossmember, then lower transmission from vehicle.
21. Reverse procedure to install.
