Throttle Position Sensor: Description and Operation
Throttle Position Sensor:
PURPOSE
The throttle position sensor contains both a potentiometer (variable resistor) and an idle switch. The ECU uses these signals to adjust air/fuel ratio during acceleration, deceleration and idle.
LOCATION
The throttle sensor is mounted to the throttle body in the engine compartment.
OPERATION
The sensor sends the ECU a potentiometer output signal corresponding to throttle valve opening. The idle switch signal only turns "ON" when the throttle is near idle position.
