Starter Switch Schematic:

A faulty starter switch will set code 12 in the on-board diagnostic system. Refer to the schematic diagram and test the switch with the diagnostic chart.


STARTER SWITCH DIAGNOSTIC CHART

Starter Switch Diagnostic Chart:

Operate starter with ignition switch to ensure that it functions properly.


CHECK ECU VOLTAGE
Measure voltage between ECU connector terminal (B56)10 and ground while cranking engine. It should read 9 - 12 Volts.

CHECK HARNESS BETWEEN ECU AND STARTER MOTOR
1. Disconnect ECU and starter motor connectors.
2. Measure resistance between ECU and starter motor connectors and ground as follows:

Connector & terminal: Resistance:
(B56)10-(B14)1 0 Ohms
(B14)1-Ground 1M Ohms min.
