Neutral Safety Switch: Adjustments

Fig. 2 Inhibitor Switch Continuity Inspection:

Before performing this procedure, ensure shift linkage is functioning properly. If shift linkage operation is acceptable, detach cable from select lever, then check for continuity at inhibitor switch electrical connector terminals. Readings should be as specified in Fig. 2.

Check for continuity, when the select lever is turned 1.5° in both directions, from the N position. If there is continuity in one direction only, or continuity at unequal points, adjust inhibitor switch as follows.
1. Ensure select lever cable is detached, and lever is in the N position.
2. Loosen inhibitor switch retaining bolts.

3. Insert stopper pin tool No. 499267300, or equivalent, Fig. 3, vertically into inhibitor switch lever and switch body.
4. Torque retaining bolts to 2.2-2.9 ft. lbs. then remove stopper pin.
5. Repeat test procedures to ensure proper operation. If readings are not as specified, replace as described under Service and Repair.
