ENGINE OIL PUMP LEAKS
If you encounter a customer complaint of an engine oil leak and confirm the oil is leaking between the oil pump housing and the engine block sealing surfaces, follow the procedures below:
1) Remove the oil pump as described in the Service Manual.
2) Locate the oil pump return hole as illustrated in Figure 1.
3) Inspect the oil return hole and see if the opening is at least 6mm. If the hole is less than 6 mm, continue to the next step.
4) Using an appropriate tool to clean out any flashing, i.e., drill bit, reamer, screw driver etc., apply grease to the tip of the tool. This will help collect any metal shavings.
5) Insert the tool into the oil return hole and enlarge the hole to 6 mm.
NOTE:
DO NOT USE ANY POWER TOOLS FOR THIS PROCEDURE!
6) Carefully clean out any metal filings from this area.
7) Reinstall the oil pump as described in the Service Manual.
