MIL ON DTCs P0105/P0106 Pressure Sensor
NUMBER: 11-47-95DATE: 10/11/95
APPLICABILITY
'95 LEGACY AND IMPREZA 2.2L ENGINES EQUIPPED WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
SUBJECT
OBDII SYSTEM TROUBLE CODES P0105 AND P0106
It has been discovered that there is a possibility of ice forming in the pressure sensor or the vacuum line system feeding the sensor causing the MIL (Malfunction indicator Light) to illuminate. This usually will occur when the vehicle is operated in extremely cold temperatures and the relative humidity is high.
Subaru has identified that the icing can be prevented by installing a filter (P/N 22663AA010) in the vacuum hose between the intake manifold and the pressure sensor. The filter is available through normal parts channels and is easily installed as a preventive measure to eliminate the possibility of this occuring.
If you should receive a customer complaint of the MIL coming on, and you have found a code P0106 in the memory, install only the filter. However, if you should find a code P0105 you will need to install a pressure sensor kit (P/N 22098AA000). This new kit contains a pressure sensor and a filter.
Replacement of the pressure sensor is the same as outlined in the 1995 Legacy or Impreza Service Manuals.
The following procedures are to be used to install the filter onto the vehicle:
LEGACY VEHICLES NON-POSTAL
1) Locate the vacuum hose on the intake manifold for the pressure sensor.
2) Cut out a 20 mm piece of this hose, 35 mm past the pre-molded bend.
3) Install the filter (it is not directional).
4) Reusing the plastic tie-wrap, secure the vacuum hose to the ISC hose.
LEGACY POSTAL AND IMPREZA VEHICLES
1) Locate the vacuum hose on the intake manifold for the pressure sensor.
2) Cut out a 20 mm piece of this hose, 35 mm past the plastic vacuum tee.
3) Install the filter (it is not directional).
4) Reusing the plastic tie-wrap, secure the vacuum hose to the ISC hose.
Illustration of Filter Installation
After the installation of vacuum filter or pressure sensor kit, clear the ECM memory. In the unlikely event that the MIL remains on or the specified diagnostic trouble code(s) reappear, refer to the applicable service manual for the proper diagnostics.
Installation of the filter or the pressure sensor kit can be claimed as follows under the terms of the Subaru Emission Control Systems Warranty:
