Manual Transmission/Transaxle: Service and Repair

1. Raise and support hood, then disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove manifold cover and air intake duct.
3. Disconnect oxygen sensor, transaxle harness and ground connectors.
4. Disconnect clutch release spring, clutch cable, hill holder and speedometer cable as equipped.
5. Remove starter, then the pitching stopper and bracket.
6. Remove transaxle oil level gauge, then the transaxle connector bracket.
7. Install engine support fixture tool No. 41099AA000, or equivalent, then remove right upper side of transaxle to engine bolts.
8. Remove exhaust system as follows:
a. Raise and support vehicle.
b. Remove front exhaust pipe, then center exhaust pipe.
c. Remove rear exhaust pipe.
9. Remove propeller shaft as follows:
a. Remove front cover of rear differential mount, then separate propeller shaft from rear differential.
b. Remove bolts holding center bearing onto body, then the propeller shaft.
10. Remove gear shift rod and stay from transaxle.
11. Remove gear selector cable from selector lever and cable bracket.
12. Remove stabilizer clamp to crossmember bolts.
13. Remove front driveshaft from transaxle as follows:
a. Remove and lower transverse link from housing.
b. Remove spring pin and separate front driveshaft from each side of transaxle.
14. Remove lower side transaxle to engine nuts.
15. Place suitable transaxle jack stand under transaxle.
16. Remove transaxle rear crossmember.
17. Remove transaxle from vehicle. Move transaxle jack toward rear until mainshaft is withdrawn from clutch cover.
18. Reverse procedure to install, tighten all bolts/nuts to specifications.
