Throttle Position Sensor: Description and Operation
PURPOSEThe throttle sensor informs the ECM of throttle angle and speed of application. This information is used to correct for acceleration and provide a reference point for the ECM.
OPERATION
Whenever the ignition is ON, the throttle sensor returns a signal to the ECM. The unit functions as a throttle operated potentiometer. The ECM sends a known voltage signal to the unit. Sensor resistance is based on throttle angle. Depending on resistance, an output signal is sent to the ECM.
