These transmissions are a 4 speed double row planetary gear type using a symmetric, 3 element single stage, 2 phase torque converter. This system uses a microcomputer for accurate control of the vehicle speed, engine brake and lock-up operations and gear shift timing. This system is also provided with an automatic drive pattern selecting function which selects between the "normal" and "power"drive patterns. The AWD models use an electronically controlled full-time version on the FWD transmission.
