Removal
1. CRANKSHAFT PULLEY AND BELT COVER
a. Remove V-belt and A/C belt tensioner.
b. Remove crankshaft pulley bolt. To lock crankshaft use Special Tool (ST) 499977000 crankshaft pulley wrench, or equivalent.
c. Remove crankshaft pulley.
d. Remove belt cover (LH).
e. Remove belt cover (RH).
f. Remove front belt cover.
2. TIMING BELT
a. If alignment mark (2) and/or arrow mark (which indicates rotation direction) on timing belt fade away, put new marks before removing timing belt as follows:
1. Turn crankshaft, and align alignment marks (2) on crankshaft sprocket, and left and right camshaft sprockets with notches (1) of belt cover and cylinder block using ST 499987500 crankshaft socket, or equivalent.
2. Using white paint, put alignment and/or arrow marks on timing belts in relation to the sprockets.
^ Z1: 44 tooth length
^ Z2: 40.5 tooth length
b. Loosen belt tensioner adjuster mounting bolts.
c. Remove belt idler No. 2.
d. Remove belt idler No. 2.
e. Remove timing belt.
3. BELT TENSIONER AND IDLER
a. Remove belt idler (No. 1).
b. Remove belt tensioner assembly.
c. Remove belt tensioner adjuster.
4. SPROCKET
a. Remove camshaft sprocket No. 2.
b. Remove camshaft sprocket No. 1. To lock camshaft use ST 499207100 camshaft sprocket wrench, or equivalent.
c. Remove crankshaft sprocket.
d. Remove belt cover No. 2 (LH).
e. Remove belt cover No. 2 (RH).
CAUTION: Do not damage or lose the seal rubber when removing belt covers.
f. Remove tensioner bracket.
