Air Bag(s) Arming and Disarming: Service and Repair

AIR BAG SYSTEM DISARMING AND ARMING

WARNING: Before performing any service procedures in or around SRS related components and/or harnesses, always disarm the air bag system.

Disarming
1. Place ignition switch in Off position/
2. Disconnect battery ground cable, then positive cable.
3. Wait 20 seconds before beginning repair procedures.

Arming
1. Ensure no one is inside vehicle.
2. With ignition switch in Off position, connect battery positive cable, then the ground cable.
3. Wait at least 20 seconds, then turn ignition switch to on position and note air bag warning lamp operation. Lamp should light for approximately eight seconds, then go off. If lamp remains illuminated or fails to light, an air bag system malfunction is indicated. Diagnose and repair as necessary.
