Malfunction Indicator Lamp: Description and Operation

PURPOSE/OPERATION
The check engine/malfunction indicator lamp provides a visual signal to the operator when a critical system is not working as it should. Depending on the malfunction the engine control module can lock itself into a set of pre-defined conditions to allow the vehicle to be driven until the condition is corrected.
