DESCRIPTION
The 2002MY Impreza Owner's Manual contains a description about a "Valet Lock" feature. This feature is not present on the trunk lock of the 2002MY Impreza sedan prior to August 20, 2001 production.
The trunk lock on 2002MY Impreza Sedans produced prior to August 20, 2001 does not incorporate the 'Valet Lock' feature, because limited access to the trunk could still be gained through the rear seat pass through opening even if the trunk itself is locked.
FHI has decided to incorporate this "Valet Lock" feature in production starting with VIN 2*516709 (August 20th, 2001).
If you encounter a customer who would like this feature installed in their vehicle, there is a modified Trunk lock key available. P/N 57449FE010 - Key Lock Trunk. Each will contain a trunk lock cylinder with a separate key
This new trunk lock will not be coded to match door locks and ignition, so the customer will have an additional key to open the trunk.
