Body - Rear Spoiler Can Be Rocked Front to Rear
NUMBER: 12-71-01DATE: 04/16/01
APPLICABILITY:
2002 MY WRX Impreza Sport Wagon
SUBJECT:
Spoiler Retention Clips
Subaru of America, Inc. has determined that some 2002 MY WRX Impreza vehicles may have an issue where the rear spoiler can be rocked from front to rear.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
The WRX Sport Wagon comes with a factory installed rear spoiler. It is identical to the accessory spoiler that is available for the TS wagon. The spoiler is retained by two bolts with RIV-NUTS in the hatch and two plastic clips. While performing QA on these vehicles we noticed that some of the spoilers could be rocked front to rear. It was found that some plastic clips were not fully seated and the lock tabs not engaged. The clips can be viewed by opening the hatch and removing the grommets, one on each side. The photos shown illustrate the condition.
Should you encounter this during normal vehicle PDT or through a customer complaint, the clips need to be seated and the lock tabs manually engaged with a small screwdriver or needle nose pliers. To make it easier, the clip can be spun around to give the best access to the lock tab. The clip P/N is 909130052.
