Engine - Oil Capacity Information

H6 OIL LEVEL EXPLAINED

There have been some calls into the Techline concerning the H6 oil change capacities mentioned in both the Owner's Manual and Service Manual. The concerns are over the accuracy of the mentioned capacities. The Owner's Manual capacity information is taken from the Service Manual. In the Service Manual the capacity needed to reach the "F" mark, on the oil dipstick, will be different based on the service being performed.

For example:

1) Engine overhaul (quantity of whole aspect)

2) Engine oil and oil filter change

3) Only engine oil change

Since there is a difference depending on what is being done and for simplicity, a uniform capacity is listed throughout the Service Manual. The capacity of 5.8 qts is given only as a rough estimate within the Service Manual. Given this information, it must be stressed that the oil dipstick should be used to determine proper oil level and not an exact oil amount from the manual, to ensure a proper oil fill level.
