Suspension - Front Strut Noise

SUBJECT:
Countermeasure to Eliminate Front Strut Noise

INTRODUCTION

If you encounter an abnormal noise coming from the lower portion of the front strut assembly, there is the possibility that the coil spring is rubbing the lower spring seat. To eliminate the noise, a rubber seat tube will need to be installed.

PARTS INFORMATION

PART NAME PART NUMBER

Rubber Seat Tube 20325FE000 (enough for 4 vehicles)

The following will also be needed:

- ThreeBond 2706 quick-drying degreasing cleaner or equivalent

- Any one of the following: ThreeBond 1521 synthetic rubber-based adhesive, Permatex Black Super Weatherstrip Adhesive, 3M(TM) Black Super Weatherstrip Adhesive, or equivalent.

REPAIR PROCEDURES/INFORMATION





1) Raise vehicle on lift and remove wheels to gain access to the lower portion of the front strut (see Figure 1).





2) Clean the coil spring where it starts to rise from the coil spring seat to approximately 60 mm (2-3/8") with de-greaser (see Figure 2).





3) Cut the rubber seat tube at the holes which will provide approximately a 60 mm length (see Figure 3).





4) Apply adhesive agent to the inside of the rubber seat tube then install to coil spring. Make sure to slide rubber seat tube as close as possible to where the coil spring starts to rise from the coil spring seat (see Figure 4).

5) Reinstall wheels and road test vehicle to confirm noise is gone.
