Transmission Installation

INSTALLATION
1) Install the rear cushion rubber to transmission assembly.
Tightening torque: 39 Nm (4.0 kgf-m, 29 ft. lbs.)





2) Install ST to torque converter clutch case.
ST 498277200 STOPPER SET
3) Install the transmission onto engine.





1) Gradually raise the transmission using a transmission jack.
2) Engage them at splines. 4) Install the transmission rear crossmember.
Tightening torque:
T1: 35 Nm (3.6 kgf-m, 26 ft. lbs.)
T2: 70 Nm (7.1 kgf-m, 51.4 ft. lbs.)





4) Install the transmission rear crossmember.
Tightening torque:
T1: 35 Nm (3.6 kgf-m, 26 ft. lbs.)
T2: 70 Nm (7.1 kgf-m, 51.4 ft. lbs.)

5) Take off the transmission jack.





6) Tighten the nuts and bolts which hold lower side of transmission to engine.
Tightening torque: 50 Nm (5.1 kgf-m, 36.9 ft. lbs.)
7) Lower the vehicle.
8) Connect the engine and transmission.
1) Remove the ST from torque converter clutch case.

NOTE: Be careful not to drop the ST into torque converter clutch case when removing ST.

2) Install the starter.





3) Tighten the bolt which holds upper right side of transmission to engine.
Tightening torque: 50 Nm (5.1 kgf-m, 36.9 ft. lbs.)
9) Install the torque converter clutch onto drive plate.
1) Tighten the bolts which hold torque converter clutch to drive plate.





2) Rotate the engine using ST and tighten other bolts.

CAUTION: Be careful not to drop the bolts into torque converter clutch housing.

Turbo model

Tightening torque: 25 Nm (25 kgf-m, 18.1 ft. lbs.)
3) Clog the service hole with a plug.





10) Remove the ST.





11) Install the pitching stopper.
Tightening torque:
T1: 50 Nm (5.1 kgf-m, 37 ft. lbs.)
T2: 58 Nm (5.9 kgf-m, 43 ft. lbs.)

12) Lift up the vehicle.
Install the front drive shafts into transmission.
1) Lift up the vehicle.
2) Install the front drive shafts into transmission.





3) Drive the spring pin into chamfered hole of drive shaft.
13) Install the ball joint into housing.





14) Connect the stabilizer to transverse link and tighten the bolts.

NOTE: Discard the removed self-locking nut and replace with a new one.

Tightening torque:
T1: 30 Nm (3.1 kgf-m, 22.4 ft. lbs.)
T2: 50 Nm (5.1 kgf-m, 37 ft. lbs.)
15) Install the shift select cable onto select lever.





16) Install the ATF level gauge guide and connect the ATF cooler hoses to pipe.
17) Install the propeller shaft.
18) Install the heat shield cover.(if equipped)
19) Install the front, center, rear exhaust pipes and the muffler. (Non-turbo model)
20) Install the center and rear exhaust pipes and the muffler. (Turbo model)
21) Install the under cover.
22) Lower the vehicle.





23) Install the ATF level gauge.
24) Connect the following connectors.
1) Transmission harness connector
2) Transmission ground terminal
25) Install the air cleaner case stay. (Non-turbo model)
Tightening torque: 16 Nm (1.6 kgf-m, 11.6 ft. lbs.)
26) Install the air cleaner case. (Non-turbo model)
27) Install the air intake duct. (Non-turbo model)
28) Install the intercooler. (Turbo model)
29) Connect the battery ground cable to battery.
30) Fill ATF up to the middle of the "COLD" side on level gauge by using the gauge hole.
Recommended fluid: Dexron III type automatic transmission fluid
Fluid capacity: 9.3 - 9.6 liters (9.8 - 10.1 US quarts, 7.4 - 7.7 Imp quarts)
31) Take off the vehicle from lift arms.
32) Check the select lever operation.
33) Check the ATF level. Test the vehicle on the road.
