TITLE: Pinging Sound From Rear of Vehicle

SERVICE TIP:

If you get a customer complaint of a "pinging" noise but it seems to be coming more from the back of the car instead of the engine, it may be coming from a loose baffle inside the rear muffler that has come loose. An inspection of a replaced muffler revealed broken spot welds holding a pipe in place where it passes through an internal chamber wall allowing the pipe to rattle. This particular one was found on a WRX STi.
