Front Wheel Bearing

This procedure begins with the front wheel bearing housing removed from the vehicle. See Wheel Hub: Service and Repair for your particular application.





1. Assemble 28099PA040-1, 208099PA040-2 (With short adapter sleeve and shorter bolt) 28099PA040-5, and J5356-4 puller bolt onto the front hub. Insert 28099PA040-6 into the bearing assembly. Turn puller bolt to remove bearing. Remove tone wheel if equipped.





2. Place the hub into the press with press plates that will provide support to the under side of the inner race of the tapered roller bearing. Insert 28099PA040-6 onto the top of the hub. Apply pressure with the press until the hub is removed. Align press plate bolts so they are supported along the length of the bolt.





3. Support the bearing housing (Wheel side down) with 927430000 (small end up). Remove the inner seal, snap-ring and bearing.





4. Invert the stand and bearing housing. Insert 927440000 into the bearing housing as shown. Apply pressure until the bearing race is removed. [If servicing SVX wheel bearing use 28099PA010. Use the small end only].





5. Clean bearing housing before installing new bearing. Support the bearing housing with 927430000 and position the bearing assembly over the opening. Using 927440000 begin applying pressure to the bearing.

Note: Do not add additional grease to pre-lubricated bearing.





6. Move the bearing housing back and forth while applying pressure. The bearing will bottom out against a ridge machined into the bearing housing.





7. Insert the snap ring





8. Insert the inner seal using 28099PA070-1. Spring side faces bearing.





9. Invert the stand and the bearing housing. Install the outer seal using 28099PA070-1. (Install tone wheel to hub if equipped)





10. Invert the stand and the bearing housing. Position the hub onto 927080000. Align the bearing housing over the hub. Using 498415600 apply pressure to the bearing inner race as the hub is forced into the bearing housing the bearing stay will be squeezed into 498415600.
