Service/Repair Information

Before performing the repair, check to make sure there are no obstructions in the sunroof guide rail(s) and that there is no interference between the sunroof deflector and sunroof glass lid. Either one will cause improper sunroof operation.

Move the front roof rack cross bar to the rearward position (if equipped).

Fully close the sunroof glass lid using the sunroof switch or sunroof wrench. Fully open the sunroof shade.

Remove the 4 lift bracket trim covers; there are 2 on each side.

Remove the 8 nuts from the lift bracket; there are 4 on each side.

Remove the shims. Pay extra attention to the number of shims in each location.

Note:
At the end of the procedure the shims will need to be reinstalled in their original location to ensure proper glass height adjustment.

With the help of an assistant, carefully remove the sunroof glass lid and place in an area where the glass won't get broken.

Using the sunroof switch or sunroof wrench, move the lift bracket approximately 4 inches towards the rear of the vehicle. Remove the 2 screws from the lift wedge on each side.

The repair kit contains a left and a right side white plastic spacer. Make sure to install spacers on the correct side.

Note:
The lift bracket must be moved forward past the lift wedge opening to expose the area of where the spacers are to be installed.

Align the edge of spacer and the rear edge of the opening of the lift wedge.

Insert the spacer into the opening of the lift wedge using long nose pliers.

Using the sunroof switch or sunroof wrench, move the lift brackets slightly rearward so that the brackets return to their tracks.

Check the alignment of the lift brackets; they should be lined up evenly from side to side.

Re-install right and left side lift wedges using the screws previously removed. Be careful not to over tighten them.

Install the sunroof glass lid in reverse order of removal.

Reset the sunroof motor using the following procedure.

Using the sunroof switch, completely close the sunroof glass lid. At this time, it operates intermittently in 50 mm (1.97 in) amounts. The switch must be pressed several times.

Continue pushing the switch for more than one second to close.

Open the sunroof glass lid approximately 400 mm (15.75 in).

Completely close the sunroof glass lid, and then continue pushing the switch for more than one second to close. (This operation enables the auto operation.)

Note:
Make sure the glass and interior trim are clean before returning the vehicle to the customer.
