For the 2005 Legacy and Outback, Subaru does not offer a replacement rubber insert for the original equipment (OE) passenger wiper blade. In this case, it is necessary to replace the blade assembly with a Genuine Subaru Replacement wiper blade, part number SOA591U218. Subsequently these replacement blades can have just the rubber insert replaced with Genuine Subaru Replacement wiper refill part number SOA591U218R. Do not attempt to use this refill insert in the OE blade, as it does not fit. Attempts to use the SOA591U218R in the OE blade could result in injury to the person trying to install it as well as poor performance if installed.

The OE wiper blade for the driver's side has a Genuine Subaru Replacement wiper refill insert available under part number SOA591U324R. In the event the driver's side wiper blade assembly requires replacement due to frame damage, the OE wiper blade part number 86542AG02A must be used. Similarly, there is a wiper refill for the OE rear wiper blade available under part number SOA591U314R. In the event the rear wiper blade assembly must be replaced due to frame damage, the OE wiper blade assembly part number 86542AG09A must be used.
