Body - Roof Rack Cross Bars Rattle
NUMBER: 15-116-05DATE: 05/26
APPLICABILITY:
2006MY B9 Tribeca
SUBJECT:
Roof Rack Crossbar Screws
INTRODUCTION
If you encounter a rattle type noise coming from the roof rack crossbars, check to make sure that the crossbar screws are properly tightened.
PRODUCTION LINE CHANGE
A countermeasure has been implemented at the port and the supplier to address the issue. Vehicles are shipped from the port with the crossbars in boxes located in the rear of the vehicle. Boxes with a blue dot indicate that the screws were doubled checked for tightness and the procedure does not need to be performed (see Figure 1).
REPAIR PROCEDURES/INFORMATION
Tools required
Because the clearance between the crossbars and roof is minimal, use a T-25 Torque Bit and a 1/4" Ratcheting Box Wrench, a 12 point works fine.
The crossbar was removed from the vehicle for illustration purposes; however it does not need to be removed from the vehicle for the procedure (see Figure 2). The screws that need to be tightened are on the passenger side (front and rear). This is the side that has the slotted holes in the crossbar. Use a suitable cloth to protect the painted surface of the roof. Be extremely careful not to damage or scratch the painted surface. Tighten each of the screws until you feel them bottom out. Normally a 1/2 turn will do it.
