NUMBER: 16-70-07DATE: 11/28/07
APPLICABILITY:
2007MY Legacy/Outback equipped with 4AT
SUBJECT:
AT Sport Mode
Introduction
When diagnosing a vehicle with the A/T oil temp light flashing and code P1817 stored in memory, the diagnostics listed in the Service Manual for the Sport mode switch circuit need to be followed. In addition, the Sport mode switch and cover should also be checked to confirm correct operation. There is a possibility that during manufacturing of the switch cover, small pieces of plastic flashing were not cleared causing the switch pivot to intermittently stick affecting the switch operation. This could also cause the system to stay in Sport mode when the select lever is in the normal "D" position. You could use the SSMIII to read the "Tip mode switch" data to determine if the switch is operating correctly. If it is determined that it is not, the Sport mode switch cover should be checked using the following repair procedure.
Repair Procedure/Information
1) Remove the center console to gain access to the Sport mode switch cover (refer to the applicable Subaru Service manual).
For illustration purposes the shifter was removed from the vehicle.
Note the orientation of the wires in and under the cover; they must be returned to their original position.
2) Remove the Sport mode switch cover by carefully pushing in on one of the tabs and with your other hand, lift up on the cover. Repeat the procedure for the remaining two tabs.
Note the orientation of the switches, they must be returned to their original position.
3) Remove the switches from the Sport mode switch cover.
4) Verify if the pivot plate moves up and down freely. If not, the flashing will need to be removed.
5) Remove the pivot plate from the Sport mode switch cover. Use a rattail file to remove any flashing from the holes of the Sport mode switch cover. Note: Only remove the flashing, do not enlarge the holes.
