Drivetrain - Front Axle Clicking Noise

Click Noise from Axle

INTRODUCTION

If you encounter a customer complaint that there is a "click" noise coming from the front axle area which is heard once when moving the shifter from forward to reverse or reverse to forward, applying grease to the contact area of shaft and hub should remedy the condition

REPAIR PROCEDURE/INFORMATION

^ Remove the front axle shaft according to the procedure listed in the applicable Service Manual





^ With the axle removed, apply grease thinly and evenly to the contact area of the shaft and hub (see below) Shell 6459N High Temperature Wheel Bearing Grease or equivalent should be used.

PRODUCTION LINE CHANGE





Grease was added to the contact area of the shaft and hub starting in July 2007 with the VINs.





Final countermeasure coating application on drive shaft at the contact area to hub started in August 2007 with the VINs.

For vehicles within the Basic New Car Warranty period this repair can be claimed using the table shown.
