Body - Trunk Won't Close After Emergency Release Use

SUBJECT:
Emergency Trunk Lid Release

INTRODUCTION

If you encounter a trunk lid that will not close after it was opened using the emergency trunk lid release, there is the possibility that the cable is binding not permitting the latch to return to the unlocked position To remedy the condition the cable will need to be re-routed

Note:
If the cable is binding, it will not have any effect on opening the trunk lid when using the emergency trunk release

COUNTERMEASURE IN PRODUCTION

Re-routing of the emergency trunk lid release cable took place in production starting in August, 2007 with VIN 8*508704

REPAIR PROCEDURES/INFORMATION

Check the operation of the emergency trunk lid release cable Note: As stated in the Owner's Manual, inspection should be performed at least twice a year to check the release handle for correct operation





1. Open the trunk lid using the trunk lid release handle next to the driver's seat.





2. Using a screwdriver push on the latch until you hear a click to insure the latch is in the locked position.





3. Pull on the emergency trunk lid release cable handle to unlock the latch Once the latch unlocks, verify that the trunk lid will shut and latch properly If the trunk lid does not shut or latch properly then the cable will require rerouting.





4. Remove the trunk lid trim panel by removing the 14 clips that secure it.





5. Unclip the emergency trunk release cable handle/holder from the trunk lid This can be achieved by squeezing the clips of the holder accessing them through the opening of the panel.





6. Re-route the cable behind the inner panel of the trunk lid and clip the release cable handle / holder back into place

7. Re-install the trunk trim panel

For vehicles within the Basic New Car Limited Warranty period this repair can be claimed using the table.
