Body - Rub Mark at Body/Bumper Juncture

SUBJECT:
Bumper Lip Contact with Body

INTRODUCTION
If you encounter a vehicle which has a rub mark where the body and the plastic bumper meet, rubber spacers may need to be installed to provide additional clearance Note: Spacer installation is only required if a rub mark is evident

PRODUCTION LINE CHANGE





The rubber spacers have been used in production starting with the VINs shown.

PARTS/MATERIAL NEEDED

^ Low adhesion painters tape, available at any paint or hardware store

^ Touch-up paint

^ Isopropyl rubbing alcohol or equivalent

^ Rubber spacers w/ adhesive backing (5mm x 15mm 12mm thick) Available upon request to Subaru Dealers by contacting the Subaru Technical Support Line





SPACER APPLICABILITY

REPAIR PROCEDURE/INFORMATION

Impreza Sedan & Wagon on Front Bumper (3 spacers





1) Verify rub mark





2) Apply painters tape to protect painted surfaces





3) Remove clips which attach bumper to inner fender well





4) Starting from the wheel Opening area carefully pull out and up on the bumper fascia to disengage from the body





5) To make performing the following steps easier; place a towel between the body and bumper cover to separate the two.





6) Clean the bumper cover edge with Isopropyl rubbing alcohol where the bumper needs to be touched-up with paint and where the spacers need to be installed Install spacers where indicated.

Make sure that the spacers do not protrude past the beginning of the lip.





7) Use paint to touch-up any rub marks

8) Install in reverse order of removal.

Impreza Wagon, Rear Bumper (3 spacers)





The procedure is the same for the rear as the front, except for the spacer location installation





Impreza Sedan Rear Bumper (1 spacer)
