Water Leak, Front Passenger Area
Introduction
If you encounter a vehicle which has a water leak in the front driver/passenger side of the vehicle, it may be coming from the body seam located behind the front inner fender well. To correct the condition, the body seam will need to be sealed.
Note:
For 2009MY Forester models, also refer to Service Bulletin 12-107-08 (Water Leak, Front Passenger Side) dated 09/26/08.
Countermeasure in Production
Additional seam sealer was applied starting in June, 2008 with the VINs shown above.

Repair Procedure/Information
1) Verify water leak.
2) Put vehicle on lift.
3) Remove front wheel.
4) Remove the front inner fender well.
5) Inspect body seam.
6) Compressed air can be used to verify voids. Have an assistant sit in the vehicle. From the outside of the vehicle, use an air nozzle and spray air into the suspected area. If there is a void, your assistant should be able to feel the air.
7) Apply seam sealer.
Note:
Make sure to read and follow the cautions and instructions on the cartridge before applying.
8) Permit the seam sealer to cure.
9) Recheck for leaks.
10) Reinstall the inner fender well and wheel.
