Fuel System - Difficult Fuel Fill In Extreme Cold
NUMBER 05-46-10DATE: 06/21/10
APPLICABILITY:
2008-09MY Impreza All Models
2009MY Forester
SUBJECT: Evaporator Drain Hose Freezing
Introduction
If you encounter a customer complaint that it is difficult to fill the fuel tank after driving the vehicle through deep snow, there is the possibility that ice has formed in the evaporator drain hose.
If the vehicle is driven through deep snow and it lodges in the rear frame area, it may melt and allow vaporized water to enter into the open end of the evaporator drain hose that is located at the cross member where the LH rear lateral link is connected. In extremely cold conditions this vapor could freeze and become ice which might cause the fuel fill nozzle to shut off when refueling the vehicle. To remedy this condition, follow the service procedure listed below.
COUNTERMEASURE IN PRODUCTION
A separator was added to the drain hose in production in May, 2009, staring with the VINs shown above.
