Automatic Transmission/Transaxle: Testing and Inspection

FACILITATION OF LEARNING CONTROL

NOTE:
When the following services have been performed or when the shifting shock is felt during the total check with vehicle driving, perform the transmission learning control with the following procedures.
^ Replacement of TCM
^ Replacement or disassembly of transmission assembly
^ Replacement of control valve body
^ When {Clear Memory 2} is executed

CAUTION:
Warm-up the engine until the ATF temperature displayed on Subaru Select Monitor reaches 60 - 90°C (140 - 194°F) before performing learning control promotion.


1) Shift the select lever to "P" range, and apply the parking brake.
2) Lift up the vehicle.

CAUTION:
When performing learning control promotion, be sure to keep the lower edge of the tires 30 cm or more above the ground as vehicle vibrates during the work.


3) Connect the Subaru Select Monitor to the data link connector.
4) Turn the ignition switch to ON.
5) Perform {Clear Memory 2} using Subaru Select Monitor.
6) Using Subaru Select Monitor, check that there is no DTC displayed.
7) Select {Normal Measurement} on the [[Current Data Display & Save]] of Subaru Select Monitor, and confirm that ATF temperature reaches 60 -90°C (140 - 194°F).
8) Set the select lever to "R" range.
9) Turn all switches including headlight, air conditioner, seat heater, rear defogger and etc. OFF.
10) Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
11) When "Communication error occurred." is displayed on Subaru Select Monitor, select [OK], and when "Save the data before communication error occurred?" appears, select [NO] to return to the [[System Selection Menu]].
12) Depress the brake pedal fully until the learning control promotion is completed.
13) Turn the ignition switch to ON.
14) On the [[Current Data Display & Save]] of Subaru Select Monitor, select {Normal Measurement}.
15) Shift the select lever to the "P" range, and wait for 3 seconds or more.
16) Shift the select lever to the "R" range, and wait for 3 seconds or more.
17) Shift the select lever to the "N" range, and wait for 3 seconds or more.
18) Shift the select lever to the "D" range, and wait for 3 seconds or more.
19) Shift the select lever to the "N" range, and wait for 3 seconds or more.
20) Slowly depress the accelerator pedal to full open.
21) Slowly release the accelerator pedal to full close.
22) Start the engine.
23) Set the select lever to the "D" range.
(When the SPORT indicator light in the combination meter blinks at 2 Hz, learning control promotion starts. When the SPORT indicator light blinking at 2 Hz goes OFF, learning control promotion is completed.)

NOTE:
When the SPORT indicator light does not blink or blinking changes from 2 Hz to 4 Hz, turn the ignition switch to OFF and repeat the procedure from step 4).

24) Set the select lever to "N" range, and turn the ignition switch to OFF.
25) Move the select lever to "P" range.
