Body - Fuel Door Not Flush With Body

SUBJECT: Fuel Door Alignment
Introduction
If you encounter a customer complaint that the rear part of the fuel door is not flush with the body, there is the possibility that the fuel filler ring is not seated properly into the resin saucer. Please use the following procedure to correct the condition.
Repair Procedure/Information
1) Verify if the procedure needs to be performed. Specification: -0.2 mm (door to inside body) + / - 0.4mm (see figure 1 and 2).
2) Record radio stations.
3) Disconnect negative battery cable.
WARNING:
Place "NO FIRE" and "NO SMOKING" signs near the working area.
CAUTION:
Be sure to guard against fire and static electricity.
4) Open fuel door and remove fuel cap.
5) Remove the 3 screws that secure the fuel filler ring and gasket (see figure 3).
6) Apply white grease to the fuel filler ring (see figure 4).
7) Reinstall fuel filler ring and gasket.
8) Reinstall fuel cap.
9) Check fuel door to body fit, if not within specification proceed to the next step.
10) Measure the fuel door tongue height (initial spec 42mm). If out of spec, carefully bend the tongue to obtain a 43mm height (see figure 5).
11) Reconnect negative battery cable.
12) Reset radio presets and set clock.
Warranty Information
For vehicles within the Basic New Car Limited Warranty period, this repair can be claimed using the table.
