A/T - Inhibitor Switch Cover/Splash Fin Availability

SUBJECT:
Inhibitor Switch Cover/Splash Fin

INTRODUCTION

The purpose of this bulletin is to announce that an inhibitor switch cover and splash fin is now available. These parts were designed to prevent snow, slush and ice from limiting movement of the gear selector lever when packed in the area around the inhibitor switch. These parts should only be installed on vehicles that may experience this type of issue.





PART INFORMATION

Note:
The 2 bolts that secure the AT Cable Plate Assembly will be reused. The AT Cable Bracket and 2 bolts will be reused.

Installation Instructions for Inhibitor Switch Cover

Note:
The following procedure is performed with the transmission in the vehicle.





Note:
Do not move Range selector or AT gearshift when performing the following procedure.





1) Remove the snap pin and washer from the range select lever and remove cable.





2) Remove lower nut and upper bolt and retain.





3) Remove AT Cable Plate Assembly and retain the 2 bolts. Remove the AT Cable Bracket from the AT Cable Plate Assembly and retain the 2 bolts.





4) Install Inhibitor Cover Front Bracket by installing lower nut and upper bolt.





5) Install the select cable to the AT Cable Plate Assembly using the AT Cable Bracket with the 2 bolts that were retained. Install the AT Cable Plate Assembly, Cable and Bracket to the transmission using the 2 bolts that were retained.

6) Install Cable, Washer and Snap Pin to the range select lever

7) Adjust the inhibitor switch

^ Set the select lever to "N" range.

^ Loosen the three inhibitor switch securing bolts.

^ Insert ST (special tool) 499267300 Stopper Pin as vertical as possible into the holes in the inhibitor switch lever and switch body.





^ Tighten the three inhibitor switch securing bolts then remove special tool.

Tightening torque: 3.4 N-m (0.35 kgf-m, 2.5 ft-lb)

8) Adjust the select cable





^ With the select lever already in the "N" range loosen the adjusting nuts A and B on both sides.





^ Turn the adjusting nut B until it lightly touches the connector.

^ Use a spanner wrench to hold nut B so that it does not rotate and then tighten the adjusting nut A.

Tightening torque: 7.5 Nm (0.76 kgf-m, 5.5 ft-lb)





^ After the completion of adjustment, confirm that the select lever operates normally at all ranges:

^ Move the select lever from "P" to "D" range. Check that all detents could be felt in each range. If detents cannot be felt or the position pointer (dash Indicator) is improperly aligned, re-adjust cable.

^ Check if the starter motor rotates when the select lever is set to "P" range.

^ Check the back-up light illumination when the select lever is in the "R" range.

^ Check the parking lock operation when the select lever is in "P" range.





9) Install Inhibitor Switch Cover using 4 flange bolts.





TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS





INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR SPLASH FIN





1) Remove the black plug from right side of the floor pan to gain access to the threaded hole.





2) Install splash fin using flange bolt, make sure fin runs parallel with frame rail, torque bolt to 140 +/- 20 Nm (14.2 +/- 2.0 kgf-m, 103 +/- 14.7 ft-lb)

For vehicles within the Basic New Car Limited Warranty period, this repair can be claimed using the table above.
