SUBJECT:
DVD Error Message "Parental Error"
INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this bulletin is to provide the instructions for updating the DVD software. This update is for the DVD player only and does not update the navigation operating system in any way. The updated software will address the following issue. On certain DVDs if there are more than 31 titles, an error message Parental Error, will be displayed when the DVD is inserted To remedy the condition, refer to the service procedure listed below.

Important:
Disregard the model year/ models listed on the disc. Use the Applicability Chart and the DVD software numbers listed on the disc for applicability.
* Note:
The following applies to 2009 Impreza, 2010 Forester and 2010 Legacy/Outback.
If you receive an error message "CHECK DISC" in Step 5 after inserting the disc, remove it and insert the other disc applicable to that model.
Impreza and Forester: If KUMA 832-10-024 is inserted first, remove it and insert KVMA832-10-023.
Legacy/Outback: If KUMA 832-10-022 is inserted first, remove it and insert KUMA832-10-021.
REPAIR PROCEDURE/INFORMATION
1) Turn ignition switch to the "ACC" position.
Note:
Do not turn the ignition switch to "OFF" while updating.
2) Insert the DVD update disc into the CD/DVD slot (do not insert into the Map slot).
3) Push the "Audio" button.
4) The Navigation screen will display "DISC LOADING" for a moment, than "UPDATING".
5) If you receive an error message "CHECK DISC" remove the disc and insert the other disc applicable to that model.
6) The update takes approximately 2 minutes. When completed, the Navigation screen will read "COMPLETE".
7) Turn the ignition switch to the "OFF" position and wait at least 1 minute. Turn the ignition switch to the "ACC" position and remove the disc. The update is now complete.
Note:
If the battery is disconnected in the future, the software will not need to be reloaded.
