SUBJECT:
RES Immobilizer Antenna Ring Clip

INTRODUCTION

In order to ensure proper transmission and reception of the transponder information signal from the remote engine starter immobilizer interface, placement of the immobilizer interface antenna ring around the ignition cylinder is critical. Slight variations in placement of the immobilizer interface antenna ring could potentially cause performance concerns under various conditions. Difficulty with key registration and intermittent RES operation in certain weather/temperature conditions are two examples.

Recently, a plastic RES Immobilizer Antenna Ring Clip was developed to help control placement of the antenna ring as well as minimize movement after installation. Refer to the installation instructions for installing the Antenna Ring Clip. Also, refer to the RES kit installation instructions, if needed.

PART INFORMATION

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

VEHICLE PREPARATION

(1) Using a phillips screwdriver, remove one (1) phillips screw on the underside of the steering column shroud and carefully unsnap and remove the lower panel. Be careful not to damage the lower dashboard panel. (FIGURE A)

(2) Using a phillips screwdriver, remove (2) phillips screws securing the front of the upper steering column shroud (FIGURE B) and remove (1) phillips screw on the rear left side of the steering column securing the rear of the upper steering column shroud (FIGURE C). Carefully remove the upper steering column shroud.

IMMOBILIZER INTERFACE ANTENNA PLACEMENT CLIP INSTALLATION

(1) Locate the previously installed immobilizer interface antenna ring at the vehicle's ignition cylinder (FIGURE D). Remove any electrical tape that may have been used to secure the immobilizer interface antenna ring previously.

(2) When installing the immobilizer interface antenna placement clip, the alignment ears will be oriented towards the steering column. (FIGURE E)

(3) The immobilizer interface antenna placement clip will be inserted from the top left side of the ignition switch (when facing the key insertion side of the switch) over the previously installed immobilizer interface antenna ring allowing it to fit into the channel on the underside of the placement clip. (FIGURES F & G)

(4) Insert the immobilizer interface antenna ring placement clip back slightly towards the steering column (to limit interference with the multifunction switch assembly) and rotate downwards around the ignition cylinder. (FIGURES F & G, above)

(5) Once the immobilizer interface antenna ring placement clip has been rotated into place around the left side of the ignition cylinder it can be pulled forward slightly to rest against the lip on the vehicle's ignition cylinder lens. (FIGURE H)

(6) After the immobilizer interface antenna ring placement clip is mounted in place, verify that the alignment ears are seated securely against the ignition cylinder mount and that the immobilizer interface antenna ring is tight and secure around the ignition cylinder. (FIGURE I)

(7) After placement has been verified, re-install the steering column shroud halves in reverse order, as described in the "VEHICLE PREPARATION" section.
