SUBJECT:
Brake Rotor Anti-rust Protective Film
INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this bulletin is to inform you of a new anti-rust protective film applied to the wheels which has been incorporated into production, along with the procedure for replacing it if necessary. The new film replaces the previously used resin protective cover.
Surface rust could accumulate on brake rotors if the vehicle is parked for an extended period of time which could lead to brake judder. The purpose of the film is to prevent surface rust buildup on the brake rotor.
Note:
When possible, the film should remain on the wheels for the duration of the in-dealer storage period. The film should not be left on the wheels for more than six months. If the vehicle is in storage for more than 6 months, the film should be replaced. The film must be removed prior to the customer taking delivery.
For replacement, refer to the repair procedure listed below.
CHANGE IN PRODUCTION
The new style film was used in production as follows:
PART INFORMATION
ANTI-RUST PROTECTIVE FILM
Note:
The part numbers listed are for a quantity of 1. If required, order 4 per vehicle.
REPAIR PROCEDURE/INFORMATION
1) Confirm wheel size and use appropriate film.
2) Thoroughly clean the wheels using a good general wheel cleaner. Make sure the wheels are completely dry prior to installing the film.
Note:
If there is any dirt, oil, brake dust, etc. the film will not adhere properly.
3) Partially remove the backing sheet from the film, slowly.
Note:
The film should only be applied to the wheel, not the tire. If applied to the tire, the film will come off easily as the tire expands and contracts if the vehicle is driven while in storage.
4) Working from the top, gently press the film on the wheel. Attach the remaining film, removing the backing sheet a little at a time.
5) Using a clean dry rag, make sure the film is securely attached to the outer circumference of the wheel, center and spokes.
