Fuel Filter: Service and Repair
Fuel FilterREMOVAL
WARNING: Place "NO OPEN FLAMES" signs near the working area.
CAUTION:
- Be careful not to spill fuel.
- When the fuel gauge pointer is at two third or more, the fuel may spill out. Be sure to drain the fuel before the operation.
- Be careful not to drop or impact during the operation to prevent the fuel pump performance deterioration.
NOTE: The fuel filter is built in fuel pump assembly.
1. Remove the fuel pump assembly.
2. Remove the fuel level sensor and fuel temperature sensor.
3. Disconnect the pump assembly connector from sub tank bracket assembly.
4. Cut the four claw holding portions where the sub tank bracket assembly and sub tank are combined using a nipper to separate the sub tank bracket assembly and sub tank.
CAUTION: Be careful not to damage the sub tank.
NOTE: If O-ring remains on the sub tank, remove it.
5. Disconnect two connectors of fuel delivery pipe from fuel filter assembly.
6. Push down the fuel filter assembly in the arrowed direction to remove clip (A), and then disconnect the sub tank bracket assembly and fuel filter assembly.
CAUTION: Be careful not to damage the ground line while disconnecting the sub tank bracket assembly and fuel filter assembly.
7. Disconnect connectors from the pump assembly.
8. Lift the two claw holding portions where the pump assembly is connected to the fuel filter using a flat tip screwdriver [dia. approx. 3 mm (0.12 in)] to disconnect the fuel filter and pump assembly.
CAUTION:
- Wrap the tip of screwdriver (A) with tape (B) before operation to prevent damage to the pump assembly claws.
- Be careful not to drop or impact on the pump assembly.
NOTE: If spacer or O-ring remains on the pump assembly, remove it.
INSTALLATION
1. Attach O-ring (A) and spacer (B) to pump assembly, and install the pump assembly to the fuel filter.
NOTE:
- Use a new O-ring [inner dia. approx. 8 mm (0.31 in)].
- Use a new spacer.
- Apply gasoline to the O-ring.
- Insert the pump assembly until it gives off a snapping sound.
2. Connect the connector to the pump assembly.
3. Attach springs (A) to the metal bars of the sub tank bracket assembly, and assemble the fuel filter assembly.
NOTE: Use new springs.
4. Push down the fuel filter assembly in the arrowed direction and attach clip (A).
NOTE: Use a new clip. (A)
5. Connect the fuel delivery pipe connector to the fuel filter assembly.
NOTE:
- Use new O-rings.
- Apply gasoline to the O-ring.
- O-rings for black connector and white connector differ in inner diameter. Do not confuse them when assembling.
6. Attach O-ring (A) to the fuel filter assembly, and install the sub tank to the sub tank bracket assembly.
NOTE:
- Use a new O-ring [inner dia. approx. 8 mm (0.31 in)].
- Apply gasoline to the O-ring.
- Insert the pump assembly until it gives off a snapping sound.
7. Replace the cushion on the sub tank backside with a new part.
8. Connect the pump assembly connector to sub tank bracket assembly.
9. Install the fuel level sensor and fuel temperature sensor.
10. Install the fuel pump assembly.
