Suspension - Revised Rear Suspension Hardware/Torque Specs

NUMBER: 05-52-12
DATE: 10/08/12

APPLICABILITY:
2011MY Forester
2011MY Impreza WRX and STI

SUBJECT:
Change of Self-Locking Nut and Tightening Torque

INTRODUCTION

The purpose of this bulletin is to inform you of a change made to enhance vehicle production during the middle of the 2011MY. This change involves the self-locking nuts and tightening torque specifications used on the 5 selected rear suspension components shown in the illustration below.
IMPORTANT: The self-locking nuts used in the 5 locations above are one-time use items. If removed, they must be replaced. The old-style nuts are silver in color while the new-style nuts are black. They are NOT interchangeable due to different tightening torque specifications.

SERVICE PROCEDURE / INFORMATION

When servicing the rear suspension on an applicable 2011MY vehicle listed, replace any of the referenced self-locking nuts with the self-locking nut specified in the repair parts catalog (which will be the silver lock nuts) regardless of the color removed. In the event you do not remove the nut and only check it for proper tightening torque, follow the recommendations shown in the chart below based upon the color of the nut being checked.

To clarify, if you are only checking the tightening torque of the nuts installed on a 2011MY vehicle, silver nuts should be torqued to the 2011MY specification and black nuts to the 2012MY specification.

NOTE:
2012MY vehicles use the black nuts exclusively.
