Fuel Door (also referred to as Fuel Filler Lid)

INTRODUCTION

If you encounter a customer complaint that the fuel door does not open far enough (approximately 15 to 16mm - 9/16" to 5/8" inch) when the fuel door release is pulled, a small piece of protector film (acting like a shim) will need to be installed behind the fuel door spring clip.

PART INFORMATION

Note:
Either 91163FJ000 or 9163FJ010 may be used. Each piece is enough for 3 repairs.

COUNTERMEASURE IN PRODUCTION

The mounting hole for the spring was moved forward 0.5mm to gain additional spring force starting with the following VINs.

SERVICE PROCEDURE/INFORMATION

Open fuel door to furthest position.

A small fathead screwdriver will be needed to remove the spring clip.

^ Use a small fathead screwdriver and push in on the spring clip tab and at the same time push the spring clip towards you. Note: To prevent damage to the fuel door, use your other hand to support the outer side of the fuel door. Be careful not to scratch the paint.

Only use the outlined section of the protector film as that area is thicker.

^ Cut a 3/4" inch x 1/2" inch piece.

^ Clean the area that the film is being applied of any dirt or grease. Note: Avoid use of harsh chemicals as paint damage may result.

^ Remove the protector film backing (green in color).

^ Install the protector film. Remove the protector film thin top layer (transparent). Apply pressure to the film to insure proper adhesion.

^ Make a small slit in the protector film for spring clip tab.

^ Install fuel door spring clip and make sure it is properly seated.

^ Check that the fuel door opens properly (approximately 15 to 16mm - 9/16" to 5/8" inch) when the fuel door release is pulled.
