SUBJECT:
DTC P0456 Reprogramming File Availability

INTRODUCTION

If you receive a customer concern of a "Check Engine" light but no reported drivability concerns, there is a possibility DTC P0456 may be stored in the ECM memory. This Bulletin announces the availability of updated ECM reprogramming files to address DTC P0456, "Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (Very Small Leak)".

IMPORTANT NOTES:

^ Always confirm if the customer may have attempted to tighten the fuel cap following the occurrence of the CEL or possibly refueled the vehicle following the occurrence of the CEL. If either situation has occurred, the source of the CEL may have been resolved by proper seating of the gas tank cap.

^ Always follow the proper Service Manual diagnostic procedures for this code.

^ Do not assume this reprogramming is automatically applicable to the vehicle you are working on. Only after confirming an actual leak does not exist, should this file be installed. Otherwise, mis-diagnosis could occur and the customer may experience a repeat occurrence of the CEL.

"2011 Later Production Only" vehicles can be identified by the "OLD CID NUMBERS" shown in the chart.
