Brake Bleeding: Service and Repair
Air bleeding
1. Precautions for handling-procedures
CAUTION:
Do not let brake fluid come into contact with the painted surface. If it happens, wash it out immediately.
NOTE:
^ When the brake system has been removed/installed, or if the entry of air into the brake line may occur, bleed air from the brake system.
^ When the master cylinder has been removed/installed, or the reservoir is empty, bleed air from the brake master cylinder.
^ When the brake actuator ASSY has been removed/installed, bleed air from the brake actuator ASSY.
2. Refill of brake fluid
(1) Remove the reservoir filler cap.
(2) Fill the brake master cylinder reservoir ASSY with brake fluid up to the MAX level.
3. Air bleeding of brake master cylinder SUB-ASSY
(1) Using a flare-nut wrench, disconnect 2 brake tubes from the master cylinder.
(2) Slowly depress the brake pedal and hold it.
(3) Plug the tube hole with your finger, and then release the brake pedal.
(4) Release your finger and slowly depress and hold the brake pedal. Then plug the tube hole with your finger and release the brake pedal. Repeat this procedure 3 to 4 times.
(5) Using a flare-nut wrench, connect 2 brake tubes to the master cylinder ASSY.
Standard value:T=19Nm {194kgf-cm} {14.0ft-lbf}
4. Air bleeding of brake system
(1) Connect the plastic tube to the bleeder plug.
(2) Depress the brake pedal several times and then loosen the bleeder plug with the brake pedal depressed. (*1)
(3) Depress the brake pedal and bleed air from the bleeder plug of the brake cylinder. (*2)
CAUTION:
During the bleeding operation, keep the brake fluid level above the MIN line in the reservoir.
(4) Repeat the steps (*1) to (*2) until no air bubbles are seen in the brake fluid.
(5) After the air bleeding, tighten the bleeder plug with the brake pedal depressed.
Standard value:T=8.0Nm {81kgf-cm} {5.9ft-lbf}
(6) In the same manner, bleed air from the brake line for each wheel.
