Disassembly

Disassembly





1. Secure the steering gear ASSY.
(1) Using wooden blocks, secure the steering gear ASSY in a vise.

2. Remove the tie-rod end SUB-ASSY LH.
(1) Place an alignment mark across the tie-rod end SUB-ASSY LH and the steering rack end SUB-ASSY.

(2) Remove the tie-rod end SUB-ASSY LH and lock nut.
3. Remove the tie-rod end SUB-ASSY RH.

NOTE:
Perform the same procedure on the RH side as with the LH side.

4. Remove the steering rack boot clip (LH side installation position).
(1) Use pliers to remove the steering rack boot clip.
5. Remove the steering rack boot clip (RH side installation position).

NOTE:
Perform the same procedure on the RH side as with the LH side.





6. Remove the steering rack boot clamp No.1 (LH side installation position).
(1) Use a flat tip screwdriver to open up the steering rack boot clamp No.1 crimping.

CAUTION:
^ Be careful not to damage the steering rack boot No.1.
^ Replace the steering rack boot No.1 with a new part of you find any cracks, damage, or deterioration.


7. Remove the steering rack boot clamp No.1 (RH side installation position).

NOTE:
Perform the same procedure on the RH side as with the LH side.

8. Remove the steering rack boot No.1 (LH side installation position).
(1) Remove the steering rack boot No.1 from the rack housing.
9. Remove the steering rack boot No.1 (RH side installation position).

NOTE:
Perform the same procedure on the RH side as with the LH side.

10. Remove steering rack end SUB-ASSY.
(1) Use two SSTs to remove the steering rack end SUB-ASSY on the RH side.

CAUTION:
Be sure to only use SSTs in the correct direction.

(2) Use a SST to secure the steering rack RH side. Use another SST to remove the steering rack end SUB-ASSY on the LH side.

11. Remove the steering rack guide spring.
(1) Use a SST to remove the lock nut.

CAUTION:
Be sure to only use SSTs in the correct direction.






(2) Use a SST to remove the steering rack guide spring cap.
SST 34299CA000
(3) Remove the steering rack guide spring.

NOTE:
As the steering rack guide is a non-disassembly part, the disassembly stops here.
