Removal
Removal1. Remove the under cover front AL (Engine under cover No.1)
2. Remove the under cover COMPL T/M (Engine under cover No.2)
3. Loosen the steering intermediate shaft ASSY No.2 bolt.
CAUTION:
Do not completely remove this bolt at this time.
4. Confirm that the front tires are in the straight-ahead position.
5. Secure the steering wheel ASSY.
(1) To prevent the spiral cable from becoming disconnected, pass the seat belt through the steering wheel ASSY to ensure that it doesn't rotate.
6. Remove the front tires.
7. Disconnect the front stabilizer link ASSY LH.
(1) Remove the under cover front side rear LH.
(2) Secure the stud bolt and remove the nut.
(3) Disconnect the front stabilizer link ASSY LH from the stabilizer bar FR.
8. Disconnect the front stabilizer link ASSY RH.
NOTE:
Perform the same procedure on the RH side as with the LH side.
9. Remove the stabilizer bar FR.
(1) Undo the 8 bolts, and remove the stabilizer bar FR as a unit with the subframe complete (body mounting cushion SUB-ASSY RR) RH and LH, from the front suspension cross member.
10. Disconnect the steering intermediate shaft ASSY No.2.
(1) Place an alignment mark across the steering intermediate shaft ASSY No.2 and the steering gear ASSY.

(2) Undo the bolt and disconnect the steering intermediate shaft ASSY No.2 from the steering gear ASSY.
11. Disconnect the tie-rod end SUB-ASSY LH.
(1) Pull out the cotter pin and remove the castle nut.
(2) Use a tie-rod ball joint puller to detach the tie-rod end SUB-ASSY LH from the steering knuckle.

WARNING:
Apply lubricant to the tie-rod ball joint puller bolt tip and threaded area.
CAUTION:
^ To prevent the tie-rod ball joint puller from falling off, be sure to tie the string to the steering knuckle so that there is no slack.
^ To prevent damage to the dust cover, at the center part nut, attach the SST while ensuring that A and B are parallel.
^ Be sure to use the wrench in the position shown in the diagram.
^ Be careful not to damage the tie-rod end SUB-ASSY LH ball joint boot.
^ Be careful not to damage the steering knuckle.
^ Be careful not to damage the disc brake dust cover FR.
12. Disconnect the tie-rod end SUB-ASSY RH.
NOTE:
Perform the same procedure on the RH side as with the LH side.
13. Remove the steering gear ASSY.
(1) Undo the 2 bolts and remove the steering gear ASSY.
