Engine Removal and Installation
1. Relieve fuel pressure as previously described.2. Disconnect battery cables.
3. Disconnect electrical connectors from starter.
4. Disconnect electrical connectors from alternator.
5. Disconnect water temperature gauge and thermal switch electrical connectors from intake manifold, then the ground wire.
6. Disconnect carburetor fuel cut solenoid valve, vent solenoid valve and mixture control solenoid valve, then the TWSV (Three Way Solenoid Valve) and VSV (Vacuum Switching Valve).
7. Remove breather hoses from air cleaner case.
8. Remove air intake case from carburetor body, then air inlet hose.
9. Disconnect accelerator cable from carburetor.
10. Disconnect vacuum hoses from Thermostatically Controlled Air Cleaner (TCAC) and canister from intake manifold.
11. Remove fuel tank filler cap to release fuel pressure, then disconnect fuel feed and return hoses from fuel pump.
12. Disconnect electrical connector from oil pressure sending unit and oxygen sensor.
13. Disconnect electrical connectors from transmission.
14. Disconnect electrical connector from distributor, then remove high tension cable from ignition coil.
15. Drain cooling system and disconnect radiator hoses from engine.
16. Remove fan shroud and cooling fan, then the radiator.
17. Disconnect brake booster vacuum hose from pipe.
18. Disconnect electrical connector from distributor gear case.
19. Remove bolts attaching gear shift lever boot and slide boot upward.
20. Slide inner gear shift lever dust boot upwards, then remove gear shift lever attaching bolts and remove gear shift lever.
21. Raise and support vehicle.
22. Disconnect exhaust pipe from manifold.
23. Disconnect clutch cable from engine mounting bracket and clutch release lever.
24. Drain transmission oil.
25. Disconnect propeller shafts from transmission and transfer case.
26. Install a suitable engine lifting device to prevent engine from dropping.
27. Remove catalytic converter bracket mounting bolts.
28. Remove transmission crossmember attaching bolts, then crossmember.
29. Lower vehicle, then remove bolts securing engine mounts.
30. Remove engine and transmission as an assembly. Before removing engine, ensure all hoses, cables and electrical connectors are disconnected.
31. Remove clutch lower plate and separate transmission from engine.
32. Reverse procedure to install.
