Automatic Transmission/Transaxle: Description and Operation

The THM-180C transmission is a fully automatic unit which can provide three forward speeds and reverse. The units primary components include a four-element hydraulic torque converter and a compound planetary gear set.

Three multiple disc clutches, a roller clutch, and a band provide the friction elements required to obtain the desired function of the compound planetary gear set.

Oil pressure and shift points of the transmission are controlled by a vacuum modulator that senses engine torque as a relation to engine vacuum.
