Transfer Case: Service and Repair
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.2. Remove distributor assembly from distributor gear housing.
3. Place a block of wood of suitable dimensions behind the distributor housing to prevent it from contacting the firewall.
4. Remove console box, then the transmission/transfer case shift lever and breather hose.
5. Drain transfer case oil, then remove front and rear propeller shafts.
6. Remove center exhaust pipe assembly, then the speedometer cable.
7. Place a transmission jack beneath the transmission, then remove the engine crossmember and lower transmission slightly.
8. Remove gear shift lever lever case, then remove transfer case center bolt.
9. Disconnect 4WD switch lead from transfer case.
10. Place a transmission jack beneath the transfer case, then remove the transfer case to transmission bolts and remove transfer case.
11. Reverse procedure to install. Torque transmission to transfer case bolts to 13.5 - 20 ft. lbs.
