Wheel Hub: Service and Repair

1. Loosen wheel lug nuts, then raise and support vehicle. Position jackstands under axle housing.
2. Remove lug nuts, then wheel assembly.
3. Remove caliper carrier bolts, then support caliper with wire.
4. Remove brake disc. If brake disc cannot be removed by hand, install two 8mm bolts in holes provided, then tighten to remove disc.
5. On models with free wheeling hubs, proceed as follows:
a. Remove free wheeling hub cover attaching screws, then cover.
b. Using needle nose pliers, remove free wheeling hub circlip, then free wheeling hub body.
6. On models less free wheeling hub, proceed as follows:
a. Remove front axle shaft cap.
b. Using needle nose pliers, remove circlip retaining the front axle shaft drive flange from the front driveshaft.
c. Remove front axle shaft drive flange attaching bolts, then drive flange.
7. On all models, bend up lock washer tab and remove wheel bearing locknut using tool No. 09941-58010 or equivalent.
8. Using tool No. 09941-58010 or equivalent, remove nut from front wheel spindle, then washer.
9. Remove hub.
10. Remove oil seal and bearings from hub. If necessary, using a suitable hammer and drift, remove inner and outer bearing races from hub.
11. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Refer to Transmission and Drivetrain/Drive Axles, Bearings and Joints/Wheel Bearing/Adjustments, and adjust wheel bearing preload as outlined.
b. Torque front axle shaft drive flange bolts to specifications.
